Abstract
This research aims to find how
21st Century Skills had an effect in academic performance of technology’s class
from the 8th year of secondary education in Colombia. The 4Cs, Critical Thinking and
problem solving Skills, Communication Skills, Collaboration Skills and Creative
and innovation Skills are 21st Century Skills* described by National Education
Association, and one analyzed through solving-problem using educational robotics. This quantitative study uses a determinate
number of groups, in this case a total of 15 groups of students who
completed the technology's class, we chose 6 groups according to their academic
performance (high, basic and low) to analyze its relationship with 21st century
skills. Furthermore, data were collected using questionnaires and Digital
Notebooks. Quantitative date were statistically analyzed using content analysis
technique though QDA Miner Software. The results allowed us to observe
that a major high academic performance, students had more development of
Critical thinking and problem solving skills, communication skills and
collaboration skills. However, we did not find differences in the six groups
related to Creative thinking and Innovation skills. These findings suggest that in possible
future studies about How Creative Thinking can be evaluate in academic

Influence of 21st Century Skills on academic performance
AbstractThis research aims to identify how 21st Century Skills have an effect on academic performance. The 4Cs, critical thinking and problem solving skills, communication skills, collaboration skills and creative and innovation skills combined, are defined as 21st Century Skills. In particular, we investigate the influence in a technology class in the 8th year of secondary education in Colombia, was analyzed through solving-problem using educational robotics.
This quantitative study was developed as a total of 15 groups of students who completed the technology's class. We analyzed their academic performance (high, mid and low) with 21st century skills. Furthermore, data were collected using questionnaires and digital notebooks. Quantitative date were statistically analyzed using content analysis technique though QDA Miner Software.
The results showed that students with high academic performance, had more developed critical thinking and problem solving skills, communication skills and collaboration skills. However, were not found differences in the six groups related to Creative thinking and Innovation skills.
These findings suggest that in possible future studies about how the 21st century learning skills can be developed in the students.
